New Card Visual | Power BI
Are you ready to be blown away by the most exciting addition to Power BI Desktop? Brace yourself for the jaw-dropping new card visual that will take your data visualization to a whole new level of excellence! Our brilliant core visuals team has poured their heart and soul into creating this masterpiece, and now, in the June 2023 release, you’re about to witness their vision come alive before your eyes. Let’s go in for an awe-inspiring experience!

Access New Card Visual
To Access New Card Visual, you will find it in the Visualization Pane. This New Card Visual does not Impact or affect the existing card visual.

Want more control over your preview experience? No problem! You can easily disable the preview or choose when you want to see it. Just head over to Options, click on Preview features, and look for the toggle switch labeled “New card visual.” It’s all about giving you the power to customize your browsing experience!

Building a New Card Visual
Let’s dive into the exciting world of visuals!
Follow these three simple and easy steps:
- Select the New Card Visual from the visualization pane.
- You can add fields by clicking on Add Data to add multiple fields to your new card visual.
- You can now personalize your New Card Visual’s the way you want.

Formatting the New Card Visual
Let’s jazz up the style of your new card! Get ready for some interactive fun with these simple steps: Click on the On-Object Edit Icon and then click on More Options Button. This will open the Format Page, where you can have all the available formatting settings from where you can personalize or customize your new card visuals.

In the Shape section, you can now customize your new card visual to Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle or Snipped Tab, both top.

One of the Coolest features which I liked the most is “Show blank as”. No more IF Conditions to deal with the blank values, you can just use conditional formatting and define your logic under values settings.

Enhance your design by incorporating an image and accent bar, while conveniently customizing all formatting settings using the ‘Themes’ feature.

Tooltips
Our newly introduced card offers users the benefit of default and report page tooltips combined. But that’s not all! If you want to enhance your tooltips even further and give them a touch of enchantment, you now have the ability to assign ‘report page’ tooltips to individual cards.
To achieve this, you need to perform the following procedures:
1) Create the design for your tooltip page.
2) Establish a connection between the tooltip page and the desired field.
3) To update the tooltip for each field within your new card, Return to the page where your new card visual is located.
4) Select the visual and access the format pane.
5) Navigate to Properties > Options and, under the Page section, choose Auto. By doing so, the tooltip for every card assigned to a tooltip page will be automatically updated.
Drill through
To utilize the Drill Through feature and facilitate user navigation across various pages, you can follow:
1) Access the General format settings and locate the Page Information section.
2) Choose “Drill Through” as the designated Page Type.
3) Include all the desired fields for navigation by inserting them into the field well.
If you have assigned the Drill Through field to other pages, every card associated with that field will have the capability to take you to those pages. To access these pages, you can easily navigate by right-clicking on the assigned card field and choosing the desired page name from the “Drill Through” option. This straightforward method enables convenient retrieval of the required information from various pages.
Limitations
- Microsoft and its team are currently addressing the problem of the shadow and glow effect leading to an unexpected alteration in the size of cards. They are actively working on finding a solution to this issue.
